What are the benefits of hydroponic growing?

Cultivating plants hydroponically is an easy and environmentally sound way to grow a wide variety of healthy plants.

What kinds of plants are grown hydroponically?

Virtually any kind of plant can be grown with the hydroponic method. The most popular hydroponic crops are lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers,

Are there any drawbacks to hydroponic gardening?

Since we don't have a large, supportive root system, heavy fruiting crops like tomatoes and peppers may have to be trellised, depending on the hydroponic system used and variety. Root crops like carrots and potatoes present a special challenge as well, although while a bit more difficult to grow hydroponically, it can be done and with pretty spectacular results.

What are the differences between gardening hydroponically and soil gardening?

With hydroponic gardening there is a 30-50% faster growth rate then soil. You will also have a greater yield because of more root growth as a result of the increased levels of oxygen available to the plant. Because the plant has to utilize less of its energy to find and break down nutrients, as in soil, the yield is greater.

How close can my plants get to my bulb?

The recommended distance between light and plant are :
1000 watts 18-24 inches
600 watts 18 inches
400 watts 12 inches
250 watts 6 inches

I am not sure about the signs of over and under fertilization. Can you tell the difference and how?

Over fertilization usually begins on the new growth by way of burning (necrosis) the tips of the plant, usually often followed by a downward curling of the leaf. You may also notice (chlorosis) or yellowing of the foliage. Under fertilization is apparent on the older growth of the plant. Your mobile nutrient will move upwards toward the new growth, leaving the undergrowth with a uniform yellowing, that if not treated will turn soft and fall off.

How much space is required to have indoor garden?

Any space can be converted into a garden. If this is your first time gardening indoors, you may want to try a couple of different sized plants on the first cycle. This will help you find the proper size and height of plant to fruit or flower.

How often do I need to replace my bulbs?

We recommend that HPS bulbs should be replaced at least every 12 months (8 months or less is ideal). MH bulbs should be replaced every 9 months (6 months or less is ideal) for maximum efficiency. The use of a light meter would be the best and most accurate way in which to measure your bulb output as well as to help with bulb replacement timing.

What size (wattage) lighting system do I need?

There are two things to consider when deciding what size lighting system to use: the actual area in which the plants will be taking up, and how tall you want your plants to grow. 150-175 watt lights are primarily used for seedlings or cuttings, though they can be used for growing plants to maturity if the plants are kept short. 250 watt systems are good for areas up to 2.5' square at the most, as

What is HID Lighting?

HID Lighting stands for High Intensity Discharge Lighting, which is a special type of lighting that is much more intense than any other grow lamp available. It is perfect for growing vegetables, flowers and herbs year round, even if you do not have a greenhouse. The second most popular lighting for gardening is fluorescents. HID systems are TWICE as efficient as fluorescents. It would take twenty 40 watt, 4' fluorescents to put out as much light as one 400 watt halide system.

How many hours should I keep my lights on in my garden?

That depends on what you are growing. Plants that produce fruits and flowers when they receive minimum hours of darkness are long day plants. A few examples of long day plants are Coleus, Bromeliads and Gloxinia. These, and all other long day plants, will perform best with 16-18 hours of light and 6 hours of darkness. Occasional interruption of the dark hours due to entering the greenhouse or grow room and turning on lights, etc.,

What about pests?

Pests become less of a concern when using all-inclusive Smart HydroGro Nutrients. They contain all major/minor elements necessary for strong, healthy and vibrant production...a healthy plant produces its’ own immune and phyto-defense system.

Do I need to be at home to sign for my parcel?
